The Story Behind Milagros and the Golden Light

Nancy Orlen Weber began writing as a child — and never truly stopped. Stories, art, imagination, always waiting for the right moment to bloom.

In February 2026, while painting on Procreate, one of Nancy’s ink drawings suddenly seemed to whisper, “Look at me.” It is one of about 300 scanned ink drawings over 40+ years.

She listened.

Within three days, the story poured onto the page: Milagros and the Golden Light — a luminous tale of hope, renewal, connection, and the quiet magic that can grow from even the smallest spark of light. She shared it with teachers, one of whom said:

“I would love to read this to children. It’s beautiful for young listeners and meaningful for adults too.”

Nancy believes the heart of Milagros speaks to readers of all ages — from young dreamers to grown-ups longing to reconnect with wonder.

Nancy painted many of the original elements herself: the plants, seeds, magical beings, and pieces of the enchanted world within the story. Some scenes came easily. Others asked for something more.

That’s when she reached out to someone she deeply trusted — Alexandra Romanova.

Alexandra first came to Nancy for mentoring. Over the course of a year, mentorship blossomed into friendship. Together they completed the illustrations. Alexandra added luminous depth, beauty, and visual magic to the world of Milagros and the Golden Light.

This book is filled with warmth, imagination, and hope — a story meant to remind readers that even in dark times, light still finds a way through.

Real Reader Reviews

Reading Milagros and the Golden Light stirred something deep within me. As an educator, a nurturer, and someone who has spent a lifetime believing in the power of healing, in children, and in the unseen connections that bind us all, Milagros’s story felt less like fiction and more like truth expressed through powerful symbolism.

The imagery of the golden plant—blossoming only through joy, love, and open-heartedness—resonated with me on a profound level. As an educator, I witness every day how children flourish when they are nurtured with patience, compassion, and unwavering belief in their potential. This story reflects that same truth on a universal scale: what we choose to cultivate, protect, and honor ultimately shapes the future of our world.

What moved me most was the urgency behind Milagros’s plea. The loss of the sacred plant is not merely symbolic—it is a powerful reflection of what happens when greed, disconnection, and neglect are allowed to overshadow what is most precious. Her testimony becomes a call to awareness, responsibility, and collective healing.

This book touched my heart deeply, awakened my imagination, and reminded me that healing—whether of a child, a community, or an entire world—always begins with those brave enough to plant hope and courageous enough to protect its light.

Milagros and the Golden Light isn’t only a tale about magic and distant worlds. It is about peace, harmony, caring for each other and the land, and being generous with what you have.

Nancy Orlen Weber weaves together environmental and spiritual threads, reminding us that every living thing is connected, whether plant, animal, or human. Her writing pulls you in so close that you almost feel like you’re marching through the planet with Milagros and Larkia. There’s also a real sense of community. The story shows how much it matters to look out for each other, no matter where you come from or who you are.

And truly, the art is stunning—Milagros stands out with her one-of-a-kind look, and the Twins float through the pages like celestial butterflies. Every illustration is soft, bright, and sticks with you. If you want something gentle but packed with hope, this book delivers. It’s a soothing story about love, healing, and finding light even when things seem dark.

Wow, Nancy, just WOW! I absolutely loved this story! As a former educator and avid reader I can honestly say this one stayed with me long after I finished it. Nancy has created a beautifully imaginative world filled with heart, hope, and meaningful themes that children and adults alike can connect with.
This thoughtful, uplifting, and imaginative book encourages empathy, hope, and unity. This is the kind of story that invites rereading because each time, you discover something new hidden within its message.
